Hi! I'm Nicolas Goy, father, programmer and hacker. I live in Switzerland with my wonderful wife and two incredible children.
I don't have a very good recollection on my first time with a computer, but I know it was on a Macintosh SE 30 with OS 5.x. I was tinkering under Excel, and CricketGraph. My first programming experience was with HyperCard and then C with MPW and CodeWarrior.
I then moved to Objective-C and Java through WebObjects, being convinced networked applications would be the future.
I did numerous early distributed applications in the late 90 and early 2000. In 2002 I started my own company Goyman SA and I single- handedly built a small datacenter of about 700 rack unit capacity. I started running multiple distributed services including some ancestor of dropbox (actually a collection of scripts I wrote using some early OpenSSH versions for syncing) and Sun Ray hosting. The datacenter peaked at about 50 servers in 2007 but the enormous cost of the bandwidth terminated the adventure in 2009.
Since 2009 I focused on software development of web application (mostly Ruby on Rails) and iOS apps.
Since 2018 I work mostly with Rust, Elixir and Elm.
If you are interested, my resume is here.
